Summer Camp Checklist for Camp Constantin

Get the Trip Permission Slip

Activity: Summer Camp at Camp Constantin
When: Meet at Jess Harben, Sunday Morning, June 17th at 8:00am. Return Saturday, June 23th at approximately 1:00-1:30pm. See the Departure Procedure
Equipment:
  • Sack Lunch for Sunday Noon Meal. Bring a Drink or buy at a gas station stop. First meal served will dinner Sunday night.
  • Boy Scout Handbook
  • Cot
  • Sleeping Bag
  • Poncho
  • First year campers need a small daypack and groundcloth for their sleeping bag.
  • Class "A" uniform (shirt and shorts)
  • Swimsuit. NO CUTOFFS! (Wear under shorts on Sunday)
  • Three pairs of shorts
  • Daily change of underwear & socks
  • 3 T-shirts (in addition to Class "B")
    (Extra Class "B" T-shirts can be purchased for $10 each)
  • 1 pr. long pants (loose fitting for Swimming M.B.)
  • Backpack (Brazos Buccaneer (1st year) program)
  • Scarf and Slide for Board of Reviews or Scoutmaster Conferences
  • A Class "B" T-shirt such as a Green or Tan Troop 1191 shirt.
  • Soap in container
  • Towel
  • Toothpaste and brush
  • Shampoo
  • Sunscreen
  • Insect Repellent
  • Flashlight w/spare batteries
  • Troop cap (No other kind allowed.)
  • Cup and Water Bottle. Water bottle must be carried at all times
  • Pocket Knife (Requires Totin Chip, otherwise knife must be checked in.)
  • Any other equipment needed for Merit Badge classes.
  • Merit Badge books for classes
  • Trading Post Money: $25-$30 general spending money
  • Extra $ for Shotgun, Rifle, and Crafts

Radios, Stereos, Gameboys or anything electronic is not permitted and will be confiscated if found!

Depart:  Sunday Morning 6/17 at 8:00am  from Jess Harben. $5.00 travel fee unless your parent is driving. Please check in with an adult leader any medications required or needed by the scout.

Return: Saturday 6/23 in the early afternoon (around 1-1:30pm). Parents will be called in route.

Scouts need to review the Merit Badge Schedule ahead of time to decide what classes they would like to take and possible alternate times in case the first choice fills up. To help in selecting merit badge classes see the Merit Badge Considerations. The 1st year scouts are tenatively scheduled for the Brazos Buccaneer Program each day, and if they know how to swim, are recommended to take the Swimming Merit Badge class. Other time slots should be chosen from the columns labeled Handicraft, Lakefront Area, Nature Area, Scout Skills, Shooting Sports, or Waterfront. The Waterfront and Lakefront areas all require completion of the Swimming Merit Badge in order to participate. Parent's night Friday 6/23. Plan arriving between 3 and 5PM. The activities will conclude around 11:00PM. If you are planning to come to Parent's Night make sure the Camp Coordinator, Angie Jensen, knows by 6/12. Cost of Dinner is $6.00 for visitors. Registered adults can stay in camp Friday night. If you are not registered, you cannot stay in the campsite. Motel rooms are available in the area, but you should book rooms early. It is very important that all scouts spend Friday night in the camp. This is part of the program and scouts need to spend all six nights to be eligible for Order of the Arrow (OA) and are needed to complete cleanup prior to checkout.

Directions to Camp Constantin:
From Mineral Wells, go west 4 miles on US 180, turn right (north) for 11 miles on SH 377, left (west) for 8 miles on SH 254, left 2 miles on SH 16, then right 7 miles on Park Road 36 (past Lakeview Lodge) to the camp entrance. Look for the signs. Camp Grady Spruce is on the same road as Constantin. It is approximately 115 miles to the camp.
